Pedometer Reviews – The Best for Under 25 Dollars

Follow the K.I.S.S. Principle – And Get the Pedometer That’s Right for You!

K.I.S.S. principle - Keep It Sweet and Simple

For the budget minded and for those who follow the K.I.S.S. principle, any of the pedometers reviewed here will whet your appetite to move into the modern world of electronic exercise tracking.

Most of these pedometers run on lithium ion batteries – just like everything else does these days.  Some need to be positioned a certain way – usually vertically and / or horizontally.  Some incorporate “tri-axis” technology – using an accelerometer – which means you can just toss these into a backpack or pocket and won’t have to keep them clipped on a waistband or hanging around your neck.

I’m just going to give you the down-to-earth nitty gritty info that you need to know – without a lot of superfluous verbosity – to make it easier to run through these offerings and make a quick decision on which pedometer fits your workout needs.

All pros and cons are from actual users of the pedometers.  I found that, across the board, many consumers found pedometers confusing and difficult to program – but, I suspect that they decided not to read the instructions or go to YouTube for a setup video.  DUH!

All of these pedometers are about as accurate as you can get for under $25.  Make sure to follow the instructions and input your normal walking stride length – and you’re off to the races.

TIP:  Remember that your walking stride lengths change depending on how fast you walk.  Walking slower means longer strides.  The faster you walk, the shorter your stride lengths will be – as a rule – until you start running.  Then, your stride lengths will exceed walking strides.

Once you peruse these reviews, it will be glaringly obvious as to which pedometer is my favorite.  It’s the OneTweak New EZ-1 Pedometer!  Yeah – that’s the one!

Review score (out of 5.0): 4.0
What It Tracks
  • Steps
  • Distance

What It Has

  • Tri-axis technology
  • Automatic reset at midnight
  • 7 day activity display log
  • Belt clip

TIP:  Just like the HJ-321 pedometer above, you can check stats easier with the HJ-320 by hanging it around your neck – with a lanyard fastened to the corner of the device.

PROS
  • Unit will count steps accurately in any position due to the tri-axis technology.
  • It counts normal and brisk steps with equal correctness.
  • An owner who was very meticulous in measuring their stride found that this unit was accurate for them within 1% – which is unheard of – since the best that most pedometers can achieve is a 5% error rate.
CONS
  • Shorter steps will increase the likelihood of errors in counting steps.
  • This one is not for runners. Walking and jogging are fine – but, most runners have strides that exceed the 48 inch maximum on this pedometer.

A Side Note:  Someone asked if this unit could record a million steps.  A wiseacre answered by saying, “Unless you’re The Flash, it probably won’t matter.

What It Has

PROS
  • You can carry it any way you want – due to its tri-axis technology.
  • This unit is so light weight, you may tend to forget you are even wearing it!
CONS
  • This Maymoc pedometer uses a “coin type” battery – and, I’m not too fond of them because, they can be hard to find when you need one.  But, as of late, these batteries are being more commonly placed into these small inconspicuous pedometers.  The good news is that they generally last for at least 6 months – up to a year.

  • Activity time
  • Distance (miles and km)
  • Speed

  • Several customers complained about accuracy – until they decided to use a lanyard and hang it around their neck. Then, they found the precision of this pedometer increased exponentially.  There were a coupla other customers who complained that it was too accurate – they couldn’t fake the number of steps and distance walked when they were trying to fool their wives.  Life is tough sometimes…

Review score (out of 5.0): 4.3
What It Tracks
  • Steps
What It Has
  • Tri-axis technology
  • Clip and lanyard
  • 18 month warranty
PROS
  • The step counter starts counting after 10 consecutive steps. Most of the others don’t start until step number 15.
  • PDF eBook download – “Your Guide to Walking for Life.
CONS
  • Zeroing the counter is done manually with a reset button – located on the back of the device.
  • Cannot set stride length – so, step count accuracy is questionable!

The majority of reviews were very positive about the 3DFitBud A420S Pedometer.  And, if all you’re looking for is a simple step counter that doesn’t add a lot of confusing features, this may be what you’re looking for – especially, if you aren’t concerned about anything more than knowing a “ballpark” figure on how many steps you’re taking on your daily walks.

Realalt 3DTriSport Pedometer

Realalt 3DTriSport Pedometer

Review score (out of 5.0): 4.3
What It Tracks
  • Steps – walking, jogging, and running
  • Distance (miles and km)
  • Calories burned
  • Exercise duration
  • Clock is built-in
What It Has
  • Tri-axis technology
  • Clip and lanyard
  • 30 day activity recording
  • Large display
PROS
  • Carry it any way you want since it has tri-axis technology – which means it uses an accelerometer to sense movement.
  • Very compact and light weight.
  • The “coin” battery lasts up to a year. But, good luck locating the replacement battery when the time comes – they can be a dickens to track down.
  • Automatically resets each day.
  • A number of customers have reported accuracies of 98% or better. It even tracks steps up and down stairs.
CONS
  • Setting up this pedometer can be tedious. If you wait too long between entries, the unit resets after 10 seconds (sometimes less it seems) – and you have to start over again.  So, it’s a good idea to know what you need to enter – in advance – such as time, date, and weight – then, you can breeze through the setup.
  • Though the display readout is large and easy to read, it is hard to tell which mode you are in during setup because, the numbers are teeny tiny – to say the least.
  • It’s a bit bulky with the built-in clip – removing it slims the unit down a lot.

It’s amazing the number of people who love the Realalt 3DTriSport Pedometer – 85% of over 2,000 reviewers – amounting to more than 1,800 folks are diehard 3DTriSport fans.

On the flip side, it is equally amazing to see that there were almost 200 folks who hate it with a passion.

But, I think I’ll side with the significant majority who adore this little pedometer.  After all, coming in with an impressive “4.3” average out of a possible perfect “5.0” is not too shabby!

AMAHITEK “AmaBull” – Wristband Pedometer

AMAHITEK “AmaBull” – Wristband Pedometer

Review score (out of 5.0): 3.2
What It Tracks
  • Steps – walking and running
  • Speed
  • Distance
  • Walking route
  • Calories burned
  • Heart rate
  • Sleep time
  • GPS tracker
  • Date and time
What It Has
  • Bluetooth 4.0
  • Pedometer to phone synchronization.
  • Remote control – can control your phone’s camera and music player – and several other features – as long as the phone is within range.
  • Touchscreen that lights up just by raising your wrist.
  • Rechargeable battery – can be back to full charge in less than 2 hours.
PROS
  • This pedometer has a ton of features for a very, very modest price!
  • Waterproof and dustproof.
CONS
  • The screen is not very durable. If dropped onto a hard surface – like a wood or concrete floor – there is a high possibility that the screen will crack.  So, be careful when handling this device – so you don’t turn it into another piece of trash.
  • Some folks complain that this device is highly inaccurate.
  • Complicated and confusing with so many features.

I am having second thoughts about the AMAHITEK “AmaBull” – Wristband Pedometer.  If you’re looking for a pedometer with tons of features for a bargain basement price – then, you’ve come to the right place.

But, with an average rating of just “3.2” out of “5.0” – that means half of the folks liked it and half weren’t very happy with it.  So, I leave it to you.  It’s a tossup for me.

Letufit Wristband Fitness Tracker

Letufit Wristband Fitness Tracker

Review score (out of 5.0): 3.4
What It Tracks
  • Steps – walking, jogging, and running
  • Distance
  • Calories burned
  • Time active
  • Sleep – can track both deep and light sleep – if you can believe that. I’m not sure I have faith in – but, hey – who am I to judge?
  • Vibrating alarm
  • Up to 14 sport modes – 8 on the fitness tracker – 6 more can be added.
  • Heart rate
What It Has
  • Rechargeable battery
  • Bluetooth 4.0
  • Phone locator – in range
PROS
  • The pedometer can synchronize with both iPhones and Androids – for GPS tracking, message alerts, camera, music, etc.
  • The screen will light up if tapped or if you shake your wrist.
  • 1 year warranty.
CONS
  • Several customers report that this pedometer had a charging issue after only a few months in service. It just stopped charging the battery even though it indicated that charging was occurring.  What’s up with that?
  • Others had sync issues and, after a short time, their phone and pedometer would not link up to each other.

In summary, the Letufit Wristband Fitness Tracker is another pedometer with a whole lot of features at a cut rate price.  It just boils down to – you get what you pay for.  And, in the “less than $25” category, this is probably a very good investment for those who like all these extra features.  However, if all you need to do is to count your steps when walking, then move on to a much more reliable option.

OneTweak New EZ-1 Pedometer

Review score (out of 5.0): 4.5
This is the highest rated pedometer in the “less than $25” group!

What It Tracks
  • Steps – walking, jogging, and running – plus side-to-side steps while doing aerobics. Isn’t that interesting?
  • Distance
  • Calories burned
  • Workout duration
  • Target goals
  • Built-in clock – You can set the day, month, year, and time.
What It Has
  • Tri-axis technology
  • Pause function – great if you’re in a vehicle – or you stop for a minute or two – and don’t want it to count steps. TIP:  Two buttons have to be pressed for “pause” – the “mode” and “reset” buttons.  Don’t use one finger to do it – because, if the reset activates first, all your previous steps will be zeroed out.  Use two fingers – press the “mode” first – then press “reset.”
  • Hibernates when not in use – wakes up when you start to move around.
  • Records up to 30 individual workout days
  • Retains your step count up to 7 digits – 9,999,999.
  • Automatically resets your daily step count to zero every night at midnight – everything else can be manually reset.
  • Includes both a clip-on holder and a lanyard.

TIP:  The clip may pop off your waistband when you bend over.  Clipping it to a belt loop or sports bra strap solves this problem.

PROS
  • Loads of customers found this pedometer to be extremely accurate.
  • Simple and easy to use.
  • Starts counting after 8 continuous steps – which is much lower than the rest of this group of pedometers which start counting at 10 or 15 steps.
  • Attach it to a moving part on a bicycle or rowing machine and, it will track the stroke count.
CONS
  • A few customers have complained that this pedometer is difficult to set up. However, if you follow the included quick start guide – which has pictures and very simple instructions – you’ll have no trouble getting it up and running – in about 5 minutes.  Just don’t wait too long thinking about what to enter during each mode because, without input, the unit will start over again in a few seconds.  TIP:  To keep your mode from timing out, just press the up or down buttons – back and forth – until you’re ready to enter the data.  Works every time!
  • The clip-on holder needs to be tighter to keep from coming loose.
  • You need to keep your OneTweak pedometer dry. It doesn’t like getting wet.

A Pair of Customer Comments

If I had to design the perfect pedometer, the OneTweak New EZ-1 would be it!

The accuracy of this pedometer is beyond belief.  So much better than any other low-priced pedometer I’ve owned!

Finally

Those people who’ve purchased OneTweak pedometers in the past have shown that they will purchase them again – and again.

The OneTweak New EZ-1 Pedometer is an exceptional, high quality device for less than $25.  It is tailor-made to track your workout with fine precision.  This little device offers a much better value-to-cost ratio than any other pedometer reviewed in this group.

I have found that low budget clip-on pedometers provide a higher accuracy rate than the wristband versions – mainly because, with the wristbands, every time you make a gesture they count it as a step – or two – or more.

Don’t wait!  You have to pick one of these up today – before they’re all gone!

    Hello,

A nice compilation about pedometers. Losing weight and keeping fit is a good thing to do always and using a pedometer comes to tell us how many calories we have burned and the distance we have covered during our workout is a great idea. I really love the OZO fitness SC2 digital pedometer for its accuracy. I think I will get that for myself. Thanks so much.

Wow thanks for the great information on these pedometers! I haven’t done much research on them as of yet but I knew I didn’t want to spend a great deal of money on a device. After reading your reviews, I think my favorite is the one you like as well. It seems to offer the most bang for your buck. Thanks again!

Looking at your pedometer review it’s made me think that a pedometer is what I need. I just started exercising with a goal to burn calories plus staying consistent. I do use what the cardio machines at my gym offer. where I have to add my weight and it gives me a total calorie for the workout. What I don’t know is how accurate and the machines are old, so I figured they’re not the best source for accuracy either. These top pedometers for under 25 dollars are a good alternative. I like that last one since it does more of what I need. Thanks for your pedometer review.

    • Noah Reply

      Hi Eddie,

The OneTweak pedometer will surely fill the accuracy gap that the old gym equipment can’t match.  Those cardio machines were never designed to be consistently accurate – even when they were new.

A lot of folks have chosen to use their own pedometers to give them much more accurate measurements when using gym exercise gear.

What a wonderfully exhaustive and informative review on pedometers under $25. You did a great job of giving all of the product specs and the pros and cons! Based on your article, I liked your top recomnendation – the OneTweak New EZ-1 Pedometer! This came at a good time for me. I enjoy physical pursuits and would like to track my progress but I don’t think I want to spend a lot of money on something like a fitbit. This is a great solution!

      Hi Sherry,

Many have chosen the OneTweak pedometer as their fitness tracker of choice.  It will surely help you in your exercise regimen.

Fitbit pedometers can get quite pricey – as are a host of others – many of which I will be reviewing soon.  But, it all depends how many bells and whistles someone wants – or needs – in their fitness tools.

Good article; very informative. I had never heard of any of these products until now, only Fitbit. I also like the fact these are under $25. I didn’t know there were any for that price that was worth buying.  The information you provided on these pedometers is very helpful. I’ve moved and can’t find my Fitbit clip-on and was not trying to buy another one. Great alternative.

    • Noah Reply

A lot of people didn’t know that there were inexpensive – yet quality – alternatives to the costly pedometers currently on the market.

If all you need is a simple step counter, then you don’t need a Fitbit.  Maybe, it is providence that you misplaced your clip-on unit.  Now, you can explore the world of a more down-to-earth pedometer like the OneTweak model.

Having read your various recommendations, when and if I am to track steps to find out how I am progressing in my fitness routine, I would have to have an accurate measuring system, otherwise it would be rather surperfluous to be counting the steps.

So, in my humble opinion, I would have to agree with you about your choice, not because you chose it, but because it is extremely accurate.

Being a technologically minded person, I would have no problem following the instructions to correctly set it up.

Thanks for sharing this information with us, I have learnt a lot from your article whereas before I had not know all these facts.

    • Noah Reply

You’re right!  Unless the pedometer is fairly accurate, it’s a waste of money to have one.  That’s why I spelled out the best of the best here in terms of accuracy – the most important component.

I’ve always said that instructions are included with products for a reason – to make sure the product can be used efficiently and correctly.  With that said – like many others – I have a tendency sometimes to ignore the instructions at first.  But, I almost always come back to them when I get stymied and can’t get something to work right.  I guess it’s human nature!

      🙂
